Elections. This is a tough subject to discuss but I want to use this platform on my blog to say that it's more than politics.
Today is a day where I feel like we are forgetting the things + people that we should be grateful for. I'm grateful to be black + educated + and great. I'm grateful to be an American citizen and exercise my right to vote. I'm grateful for my friends like Makaya that remind me that I am heard and that I'm not less. I'm grateful for Momma Pitts who is a calming spirit that always puts me at ease. And I'm so dang grateful for my mentor, Carly Rose who reminds me to always turn back to God and I will do so at the end of this post.
I just want people to know that it is indeed more than just politics. We can disagree and still be friends. But that doesn't apply to racism, sexism, homophobia, or transphobia. A good friend of mine, Emely told me this, "I feel like a friend is a close relationship and they share your values, and if they don’t align then they aren’t your friends." If people can't see past the wicked ways of wrongdoing then they are part of the problem. Saw this real cute graphic on Instagram this week.

I respect other political parties. I respect differing opinions. I respect others + their thoughts. What I don't respect is the making fun of pure human rights issues and ethical issues that are clearly wrong. It's more than politics the issues we are dealing with and I'm scared people don't see that. I'm scared that our world is going to turn into shambles if we don't take precautions. I'm scared that people won't react in the most respectful way if their candidate loses. I'm scared that my voice isn't big enough to reach the people I want to reach and remind them that it's okay to be scared.
I think during this time we need to truly fix our eyes on God and focus on Him. So I will provide y'all with some notes from my devotional and scripture to look back on in these times that seem like a cry for a help. I have been so resillient when it comes to the things I've dealt with this semester from feeling unheard, unappreciated, and it hurts but through the grace of God I am perservering.
Here are some things to remember during this time...
- Don't let this time set you back, don't stop your joy, continuing your faith, and magnifying the Lord.
- If something wears you out and robs you of peace, don't do it.
- His purpose will prevail.
-Look for God's favor in every failure.
-God uses the "bad" things to build us up.
- God is the one and only God, the ruler of every last bit of history. *Read Isaiah 41*
-God alone knows the former things, what they are and their outcome as it pertains to the things to come!
When you keep your thoughts fixed on God, the things of God will permeate your life, and thus your goals will be in line with His will and His kingdom.
So until next time...tell me something good in the comments and THANK YOU RONA.
